Mountain summit

A beautiful excursion mountain in the Vienna Woods: the Anninger, a limestone plateau with four peaks, entices visitors to an outdoor experience. At its foot are the communities of Mödling, Guntramsdorf and Gumpoldskirchen as well as Pfaffstätten, Traiskirchen, Gaaden and Hinterbrühl. Numerous easy climbs and via ferratas lead uphill. Beautiful viewpoints and many places to stop for refreshments make the Anninger a popular hiking and recreation area not far from Vienna.

The Anninger summits

  • Anninger: The main summit is 675 meters high and houses the Wilhelmswarte - a round tower made of stone masonry about ten meters high. Inside, an iron spiral staircase leads to the viewing platform, which offers views as far as Sonnwendstein, Schneeberg and Hohe Wand.
  • Eschenkogel: The Kaiser-Jubiläumswarte is located at the 653-meter-high summit. The steel construction reaches 25 meters into the air. It was erected on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the reign of Emperor Franz Josef. Not far from it is also the Anningerhaus, the refuge of the Association of Friends of Nature in Mödling from 1877.
  • Vierjochkogel: The Anninger transmitter - a Telekom Austria facility visible from afar - has stood on this 651-meter-high peak since 1956.
  • Buchkogel: The fourth and lowest Anninger peak is 639 meters high.

Popular marked hiking routes up the Anninger

The hike from Mödling via the Golden Staircase at the Krauste Linde shelter in Gaaden up to the Anningerhaus on the Eschenkogel takes about 2 hours.
From Gumpoldskirchen, a hike of about 1.5 hours leads first to the Kalvarienberg. From there it goes through the Siebenbrunnengraben to the Anninger peaks.

Extra tip: North of the four Anninger peaks, the "little brother", the Kleine Anninger, rises 494 meters into the air. Here you can visit the Hussar Temple.
