Dornau loop from Leobersdorf
Hiking tour Starting from Leobersdorf, parking lot at the Generationenpark behind the church
- Difficulty: Easy
- Distance: 4,84 km
- Duration: 1:11 h
- Ascent: 16 m elevation gain
- Descent: 17 m elevation gain
The market town of Leobersdorf is located at the end of the Triestingtal valley, largely in the Vienna Basin. Due to its convenient location, the municipality of Leobersdorf has developed from a pure wine village into an important business location in the Triestingtal. The walks in the municipality are mostly flat and largely lead through agricultural areas, often between vineyards. An exception to this is the Lindenberg, the first elevation north of the Triesting, which can be explored on a beautiful hiking circuit with an ascent of 160 meters. The newly constructed cycle path towards Enzesfeld now also opens up the hiking areas of the market town of Enzesfeld-Lindabrunn as far as the Guglzipf in Berndorf. Hikes in Leobersdorf can be rounded off comfortably at one of the many wine taverns or inns. The new main square in the village is also worth a visit.

This undemanding loop in the vicinity of the municipality of Leobersdorf, which takes you on a flat route, uses partly well-maintained paths, partly cycle paths, partly paths and country lanes. The route leads along the Generationenpark (children's playground) to the district of Dornau, where you should visit the "Kunstmühle". The following section of the route leads through tranquil alluvial forest to the Wiener Neustadt Canal with the accompanying Eurovelo 9. Be careful when crossing under the canal, you should not miss the little path. Afterwards, walking along the western embankment of the canal, you have a beautiful view as far as the dominant Schneeberg. Field paths finally lead back to the village of Leobersdorf, where you can end the hike in one of the many restaurants, e.g. on the main square (1 min. from the parking lot).
- Equipment Normal hiking equipment
- Route description From the parking lot, return to the promenade path, which runs along the left bank of the Triesting. Follow this wide gravel path downstream along the stream bank, past the Generationenpark to a sharp left turn. Shortly after the curve, immediately before a 'Generationenpark' sign, a narrow gravel path branches off to the right, crossing a ditch to Trauttmansdorffstraße, where you reach the Dornauer Stub'n (wine tavern). Continue a short distance on Trauttmansdorffstraße to Dornauerstraße. Turn right here over a bridge and railway tracks and continue straight until the 'Kunstmühle Dornau' (restaurant). Turn left here onto the footpath to Schönau and initially follow the path along the forest edge to the Southern Railway track, where a small underpass leads under the railway. From here the path runs through the floodplain forest along the Mühlbach until the Wiener Neustadt Canal is reached. Cross the bridge onto cycle path no. 9 (Thermenradweg) and turn right over the large wooden bridge. Here the Wiener Neustadt Canal is also carried over the Triesting. Just after the end of the bridge, a path leads down to the Triesting on the left and you walk under the cycle path and under the canal on a little path. Then briefly on a meadow path up the slope and you are now on the west side of the canal. Beautiful view over the fish ponds to the pre-Alps up to the Schneeberg. You now stay on the meadow path for 500 m, which runs along the canal (the old path at the foot of the embankment is fenced off), and at the end of the fence (near the barrier) descend a meadow slope to the sandy roads. Here choose the sandy road leading west (towards the Southern Railway), along the fish ponds, under the Southern Railway at the underpass, and walk straight towards Leobersdorf. This leads directly to the Triestingtal railway, which is crossed via a small crossing. Now you are back in the town of Leobersdorf, take the Raiffeisengasse to the right and the Franz-Wengergasse back to the Generationenpark (footbridge over the Triesting). On the promenade, shortly back to the starting point.
- Parking Large parking lot behind the church, at the edge of the 'Generationenpark'
- Getting there A2 South motorway exit Leobersdorf, on the Hainfelder Federal Road B 18 towards Günselsdorf, under the motorway and at the first traffic light turn right into Leopold Hörbingerstraße. Left to the main street and at the roundabout right into the main street. After the main square turn left into Färbergasse and follow the alley to the large parking lot at the edge of the 'Generationenpark'.
