Details for: Hagenbachklamm circular hiking route

Brief description

The Hagenbachklamm is closed for a longer period due to extensive damage - Current information can be found on the municipal website of St. Andrä-Wördern!

Due to the recent flooding situation, the gorge is closed until further notice, but the birds of prey breeding station in the Hagenbachklamm is open and accessible via the UNTERKIRCHBACH ACCESS!

Description

You will experience a wonderful, family-friendly (though not pram-accessible) loop through the romantically wild gorge. A varied, well-maintained path leads along the Hagenbach through gorges and rocks, over bridges and footbridges.

Tip/Fun fact: At the end of the gorge you will find a large children's playground and the largest private birds of prey station in Europe, with around 300 specimens of 30 different species.

Route description Hagenbachklamm circular hiking route

The Hagenbachklamm is closed for a longer period due to extensive damage - Current information can be found on the municipal website of St. Andrä-Wördern!

We start at the St. Andrä Wördern train station and reach the main street (left) via Bahngasse and from there Lehnergasse (right). We follow it to the roundabout, then turn left onto Wiener Straße. At the edge of town, we turn left onto the beginning of the chapel hiking trail, which we follow to the entrance of the Hagenbachklamm. We follow the marked hiking trail towards Kirchbach/Unterkirchbach (red), reach the birds of prey station and shortly after a road intersection. At the bridge, we keep left and then take the first street on the right (circular hiking trail). At the horse paddocks, we take the left path towards the forest edge and follow it. Following the bridle path, we keep left (uphill). Upon reaching the meadow, we follow the path across the meadow (left towards the overhead line) and return to the forest. At the fork in the road, we keep left and reach a paved road, which we follow right. We follow the signs to Oberkirchbach and then to St. Andrä in front of Hagenthale until we reach the bird of prey station again on the left. In front of the barrier, we now take the left path (chapel hiking trail, red). We follow the hiking trail and the signs towards St. Andrä Wördern and always continue straight at the forks in the path. Going downhill, we reach St. Andrä Wördern and from there get back to the train station via Lehnergasse and Hauptstraße.

Safety information

It is important to consider your physical condition when selecting a route. Before starting the route, the weather report should be checked as weather in mountain regions can change quickly. Equipment should be adapted accordingly. It is also recommended to check in advance whether the dining establishments along the route are open.
Despite careful research, there may be unforeseen short-, medium-, or longer-term closures on the trails (e.g., due to forestry closures by landowners). Parking facilities recommended by us may be private or subject to fees – please observe on-site signage. Some paths may be partially or entirely through fee-required areas or businesses (e.g., nature parks or gorges). This is usually explicitly mentioned in the description. All information is without guarantee, and use of the paths is at your own risk. Any path closures or notices from hunters and landowners must be observed.
