Atmospheric advent

Get into the right mood for Christmas and visit the wonderfully tranquil Christmas markets in the Vienna Woods.

Directly in front of Vienna’s city boundary lie the Vienna Woods, which, due to their woodiness and scenic diversity, attract a variety of guests. The Vienna Woods are a popular excursion destination even during the winter for one-day excursions or family holidays. While the region is well-known among travellers as a spot that facilitates active cycling holidays and hiking holidays from Spring until Autumn, the Vienna Woods settles down during the winter season, offering both tranquillity and a pre-Christmas atmosphere.

Be it the gorgeous Advent landscape in Kurstadt Baden, the tranquil Christmas market in Maria Anzbach featuring handicrafts and a colourful program for children or Klosterneuburg’s Adventzauber (Advent magic) event with a village-like feel and an extensive programme for children, the Advent season in the Vienna Woods ensures that everyone experiences the joy of the pre-Christmas period. Children will be especially thrilled by the magical Advent event held in Bad Vöslau which makes children’s eyes light up with joy with its live fairy tale characters and ponies and the Christmas market at Burg Neuhaus, where Mother Hulda shakes out her continental quilt and tells stories.

Amazing handicrafts will be put on display at the Advent event held at the water castle in Kottingbrunn. At this year’s event, more than 130 exhibitors will once again be spreading the pre-Christmas cheer. A Christmassy atmosphere and imperial ambience are combined at Laxenburg’s castle square and, with the erection of the medieval Christmas market, Mödling turns into a platform for merchants and artisans. The Advent event at the Gumpoldskirchen castle is also beautiful.

The annual Christmas market held at the Hernstein castle has a particularly rich treasure to offer as the he former hunting lodge of the Habsburg-Lothringen family opens its doors at this special time of year, doors which otherwise remain closed to the general public.

Those who are looking for an alternative to the pre-Christmas hustle and bustle will be drawn to the Advent market for monastery goods held in Stift Heiligenkreuz where more than 35 monasteries display their handicrafts and natural products. Please note: this special Christmas market only opens on one Sunday in December.

The most beautiful events of the pre-Christmas period can also be found in our event calendar.
