Burgruine Altlengbach

Fortress

Description

In Zwiesel between Lengbach and Großer Tulln, hidden in the forest on a mound of earth, lie the ruins of an almost square-shaped stronghold and to the east, around 6 m below, the outer bailey arranged around a rectangular courtyard.

The ruins only have rough-hewn ashlars in places; the spandrel masonry from the 15th century uses bricks as well as quarry stone.

The castle is said to have been built around 1400 by the Fallbach family of Loosdorf and is mentioned as a barren fortress in 1457. The baroque castle was destroyed by the Turks and never rebuilt.
