Eichkogel
Mountain summit
Description
The 367-metre-high Eichkogel, just south of Mödling in Lower Austria, is a nature reserve. With its climatic and geological characteristics, the area offers favorable conditions for an abundance of different dry meadows, bushes, forest landscapes and the insect world.
Location: Vienna Woods, Guntramsdorf
Characteristic plant species in spring are Iris pumila, Adonis florets and daffodils. The sandy loess soil is very attractive to many soil insects. As a result, new species can always be admired on the Eichkogel. The Eichkogel is considered Austria's most important collection point for endangered species.
The Eichkogel is home to a wide variety of ecological niches and habitats in a very small area, making it the main area of occurrence for many animal species. More than ten percent of the world's population of many species can be found on the Eichkogel.
