Description

The Anglo-American poet Wystan Hugh Auden (1907-1973) bought what is now the "Auden House" in Hinterholz in 1957 and spent the summers from 1958 to 1973 there. This period is known as his "German period". Auden was one of the most important poets of the 20th century in the English-speaking world and winner of the Pulitzer Prize. One of his poems is recited in the film "Four Weddings and a Funeral". The study and a documentation room can be visited. (Tel. 02743/8989 or 02743/8696). W. H. Auden's grave in the old cemetery in Kirchstetten can be visited at any time.
