Mödling train station

Train station

Description

The barrier-free, well-signposted Mödling station allows passengers to wait for their next connection in the best possible comfort. This is supported by a bakery and a tobacconist, as well as toilet facilities and a heated waiting room in winter. Thanks to the modern information monitors, passengers are always well informed about arrival and departure times.

The thoroughly structured layout of the reception building allows short distances to all other connections thanks to several entrances. The spacious Park & Ride facility offers space for around 900 vehicles, while the Bike & Ride area accommodates over 680 bicycles.

The Mödling stop is located on the route of the Südbahn. Trains from the S2, S3 and S4 rapid transit lines also run on the 4 platforms, and 2 bus stations provide connections to bus lines throughout the district as well as to Siebenhirten and Liesing. This means that Shopping City Süd is also connected by bus.

Hinterbrühl lake grotto

A visit to the lake grotto in nearby Hinterbrühl is a very special excursion experience. From Mödling train station, you can either walk for three quarters of an hour to the largest underground lake in Europe. For those who prefer to travel in comfort by public transport, the bus station provides a direct connection to the Excursion destinations.

The history

The local railroad, which ran from Mödling station to Hinterbrühl, was a special historical feature. It was not only Austria's first electric railroad connection, but also the first railroad in the world to be permanently operated by an overhead line. The line, which was not quite 4.5 km long, was closed in 1932.

Tip: There is a nextbike rental station directly at the station. The bikes are available in Lower Austria from April to mid-November. You can find more information on the website https://www.nextbike.at/de/niederoesterreich or in the nextbike app.
