History Trail – “Klosterneuburg to listen to”!

...with a new audio guide app available to download for free!

Stadtmarketing and Werner Brix are turning the History Trail into a ‘HistOHRy Trail’. It presents the history of Klosterneuburg in a humorous way.

In 2009, Klosterneuburg’s historical trails were established for the town’s residents and visitors. One trail leads through the so-called ‘Lower Town’ and another through the ‘Upper Town’. In total, 37 information panels at key locations throughout Klosterneuburg provide an incredibly rich source of information on the town’s eventful history, using photographs, graphics and text. Until now, however, it was often not clear to many visitors that these information boards were designed as trails and are interconnected.

As many residents of Klosterneuburg are unlikely to be going on long holidays this year, this offers an opportunity to rediscover the town, either on your own or with your family. Klosterneuburg’s city marketing team has not only given the trails a visual makeover but has also utilised the internationally recognised ‘Hearonymus’ audio guide system. This guide is available as a free app that can be installed on all standard mobile phones, tablets or computers. Anyone, whether on site or at home, can now listen to the town’s history.

The focus, however, is not only on visitors to the town of the Babenbergs but also on those who have made Klosterneuburg their new home in recent years. Klosterneuburg cabaret artist Werner Brix and radio presenter Stuart Freeman as the prominent narrators. Anyone who has installed the app can set off on a discovery tour straight away and be guided through the Upper and/or Lower Town. Those who prefer to take it at a more leisurely pace can, however, find out about Klosterneuburg from any location, as the information panels are also accessible online. The entertaining, informative and, above all, humorous texts are not identical to the stories on the information panels, but provide additional information and anecdotes.

These were written and humorously narrated by the Klosterneuburg-based cabaret artist Werner Brix. In the English version, this role is taken on by radio presenter and voice-over artist Stuart Freeman. Wolfgang Bäck and his team from the City Archives, together with the City Museum team led by Veronika Gonaus-Pfaffel, ensured the historical accuracy of the content and the provision of the images.Klosterneuburg also wishes to bring its town’s history closer to the many international visitors who come here via IST Austria. A recording in English is therefore planned for the future. In addition, there are plans for a special version for children in the future, which can then be used in general studies lessons at Klosterneuburg’s numerous schools.
