Brief description

A very special cycle route where you can ride an "all-round trekking bike" or "e-bike" describes on an almost 62 km long very varied route what made the Vienna Woods so special as the seat of monasteries, the imperial family and artists.

Description

Starting from Laxenburg, near the Laxenburg Castle Gardens, the journey south starts at EuroVelo 9, past the sun-drenched vineyards, numerous fields and acres. After the turnoff to the "Thallern-Strecke" (Thallern route) through the imperial city of Baden, where a detour to the Römertherme Baden would be ideal for tired calves, the route continues on the Helenental cycle path to the Krainerhütte and then on the "Wegerl durchs Helenental", on the "Helenental-Strecke", through the romantic Helenental. Partly through the cosy deciduous forest you continue directly to Karmel Mayerling and finally to Heiligenkreuz Abbey, each of which invites you to an impressive visit.  The route continues through a forest and meadow area typical of the Vienna Woods to Siegenfeld and then to Gaaden. From there the journey goes back on the "Thallern route" to Hinterbrühl, where important painters and composers met during the Biedermeier period. Along the splashing Mödlingbach stream the Mödlingbach cycle route leads back to the Thermenradweg cycle path, where the "Monastery Imperial Artist Tour" ends. Throughout typical Vienna Woods inns, bicycle-friendly hosts as well as numerous Heurigen ensure enjoyable stops.
