Route description Municipal round Wienerwald

The path leads from the Sulz parish church “Maria Namen” with its legendary Marian image over the ox pasture up to the cozy “Gasthof zur Wöglerin” with the forest-edge beer garden. From here, it goes down the small Winkelberg into the Gruberau, past the former Schusternazl inn to Buchelbach, where the next dining opportunity awaits at the rustic “Biosphärenhof,” the beer and cider tavern of the Prukl family.

Refreshed, you pass the English show garden of Mrs. Klein (visit by prior arrangement) and hike along the forest road above Grub – from here, a short detour also leads to “S’Stüberl,” where, in addition to good cuisine, there is also a small grocery store.

At the end of the forest road, you cross the east end of Grub and move over the foothills of Hocheck to the Dornbach valley. At the end of this picturesque valley, you arrive at Dornbach with the “Dornbacherhof” and its down-to-earth cuisine. From here, it goes along the vineyard past the model airfield toward the large Buchkogel. There you encounter the larch tree path, named after the ancient, gnarled larch tree. You follow this path down to Sittendorf, walk through the town with its architecturally remarkable parish church from the 12th century, and then climb back up to Wildegg Castle, which also dates from the 12th century.

A small climb more, and then the last section is almost flat back to Sulz. Only the final stretch from the Sulz Heights to the starting point opposite the new town hall pleasantly descends again. As a reward, a last refreshment awaits at “Postschänke” with old Viennese cuisine or at our top gastronomy “Stockerwirt” with its picturesque beer garden.

Of course, depending on taste, there is also the possibility to design a personal “Wienerwaldrunde” by varying the individual municipal circular hiking trails with preferred dining options.
