Description
A ride along the cycle path is a journey through changing landscapes. Accompanied by the sound of the river, it leads from the southern Vienna Woods, starting at Leobersdorf, on initially flat paths past Hirtenberg, Berndorf, and Pottenstein. Cycling further upstream, you pass through the already alpine-like landscapes of Weissenbach, Altenmarkt, Kaumberg, and Hainfeld to St. Veit an der Gölsen. In Traisen, the path finally connects to the Traisental Cycle Path. Those traveling in this direction who first follow the Triesting and then the Gölsen are actually on a section of the old "Via Sacra" from Vienna to Mariazell. The transition from the Triestingtal to the Gölsental cycle path takes place at Gerichtsberg, overcoming a little more than 200 meters in elevation. "Sporty pleasures, cultural discoveries, cool refreshments"—those looking for a challenge will particularly find demanding sections and mountain bike trails around Altenmarkt. Along the way, cultural gems such as the Araburg castle ruins or the Klein-Mariazell basilica invite exploration. Cool refreshments are offered by many idyllic spots along the banks of the Triesting and Gölsen for resting.
Character: Family-friendly day rides include the sections along the Gölsen (between Traisen and Hainfeld) as well as along the Triesting (between Kaumberg and Leobersdorf)
A tip for a multi-day tour: Those who first follow the Triesting and then the Gölsen are traveling on the old „Via Sacra“ from Vienna to Mariazell. You have to overcome a little more than 200 meters of elevation.
The Triesting-Gölsental cycle path is also part of the "Vienna Woods Cycling Circuit", which covers 215 km along the Triesting, Gölsen, Traisen, the Wiener Neustädter Canal, and the Danube!

Route description Triesting-Gölsental Cycle Path
Attention: The cycle path is closed in the area Essentherstraße/Alleegasse up to Berndorf Factory from August 15 to September 5 due to forestry work. On weekends, the cycle path is repeatedly reopened (Fridays from 6:00 pm until Monday 6:00 am).
Directions
By car:
A1, West Autobahn - exit St. Pölten Süd - turn right onto B20 towards Mariazell. At the beginning of Traisen, turn left towards the station and park there. The Traisental cycle path passes directly here; follow it about 600m south to Traisen, where the Gölsental cycle path branches off to the left at a bridge.
Public transport to Traisen:
Take the Westbahn line to St. Pölten and continue with the Traisentalbahn to Traisen station. The Traisental cycle path passes directly here; follow it about 600m south to Traisen, where the Gölsental cycle path branches off to the left at a bridge.
Public transport to Leobersdorf:
Take the Südbahn line from Vienna to Leobersdorf, or from Wiener Neustadt to Leobersdorf. From Leobersdorf, you can directly join the Triestingtal cycle path and cycle towards Traisen.
