Burg Neulengbach
Fortress, Scenic lookout
Description
Founding and seat of the Hochfreien von Lengenbach from 1191. The lords of Lengenbach were among the most powerful noble families in Austria. They owned 20 castles and used the colors blue and yellow in their coat of arms, which today represent the colors of Lower Austria. Generously extended into a residential castle under Count Khuen at the beginning of the 17th century, the castle complex is now a three-storey quadrangular building with a double defensive ring with 8 round towers, which was never captured by enemies. A porch with a magnificent Renaissance portal, an atmospheric courtyard with Tuscan double columns and stone fountain basins adorn the castle, which is now privately owned.
