Heimatmuseum Kaumberg
Description
Attention: Local history museum temporarily closed
Prof. Roland Herold retired at the age of 80 and after more than 35 years as museum director of the Kaumberg local history museum. The municipality will develop a new, modern concept by the end of 2023. We will keep you up to date here, in our municipal newspaper and in the news articles on current topics on the municipal website.
The Kaumberg Museum of Local History is housed in a former schoolhouse, which was built using quarry stones from the Araburg castle, among other things. From 1835, it was used as a hunter's lodge, hikers' hostel and nursing station as well as for gendarmerie accommodation, where the "Gemeindekotter" (the detention cell) was also located until 1970.
Following restoration work, the local history museum was opened in the basement of the building in 1987. This museum focuses on the history and development of the market town. In particular, the school, parish church, agriculture, post office and fire department as well as small local businesses such as shoemakers, blacksmiths and wainwrights are represented with pictures, exhibits and equipment.
Permanent special exhibitions enrich our exhibition program. Under the motto: "Museum is history to look at", we invite you to visit the local history museum and enjoy our wonderful landscape in and around Kaumberg.
