Schlossmuseum

Museum

Description

The museum is located in the state rooms of the moated castle of Kottingbrunn. The rooms, with their remarkable stucco work and frescoes, provide a stylish and dignified setting for the museum.

The castle museum was founded by Rudolf Mehlstaub (†) and Karl Masilko (†) in 1994 at the request of the municipal leadership at the time. Housed in the state rooms on the first floor of the moated castle, the museum originally consisted of four rooms. In 2007, the sensational discovery of a Roman "Villa rustica" on the site of the old sports field led to the expansion to seven rooms. Following the completion of the general refurbishment at the end of 2016 and the redesign of the collections on the history of the castle, the racecourse, the Wiener Neustadt canal, the airfield, the economic development of Kottingbrunn and the Roman collection and prehistory, the museum is now open to the public.and the prehistory, fossil and mineral collection of Mr. Karl Masilko, the castle museum shines in new splendour and is now fully accessible to the public again.
