Bunkerstüberl

Heuriger wine tavern

Description

From the book "STRENG GEHEIM" a report on the Bunkerstüberl by Robert Bouchal and Johannes Sachslehner "The bunker tavern in Leobersdorf"

Two Mangalitza sandwiches and two summer spritzers please. The waitress in her red dirndl notes the order on a small pad and disappears with a smile and the sentence: "Gentlemen, you're welcome".
We are sitting in the warming afternoon sun on the edge of a vineyard very close to highway 18 opposite the Bloomfield shopping center. It is very pleasant here at the weekend, at the foot of the Lindenberg in Leobersdorf. Simple Heurigen benches stand on the paved forecourt to a place that is a closed secret.
Herbert Bader and Erich Vlasek have made it their mission to spoil their guests with excellent wine and other delicacies.
With an original name that has a high recognition value, they call their refreshment stop the "Bunkerstüberl" - after all, who knows a wine tavern that can call itself a "Bunkerstüberl"? But this description is 100 percent accurate here.

Two iron doors can be seen. The one on the left is a massive double bolt bunker door from the Second World War. It leads to a room where wine is served today. If the weather is bad, you can also enjoy your wine inside, protected from the rain. However, this room originally had a completely different purpose. It was, so the story goes, the generator room. The electricity for the large bunker facility in Lindenberg came from here. The second door is located nearby and also leads into a separate room. This is where the cold food is prepared for consumption. Where the hearty lard and Mangalitza breads are now prepared, there is a green-painted door at the far end. However, this is always locked. Behind it is a large gallery. It is also not possible to visit the air-raid shelter during serving times. However, if you have the key, you can open the door and begin an impressive walk through the former air raid shelter. This door can only be opened very slowly and slowly with combined forces. We enter an underground network of paths that is impressive simply because of the surrounding rock. The tunnel profile is not supported by concrete at any point. The tunnel is located in the conglomerate, which reaches deep into the underworld of the mountain .......
