Hernstein
The market town of Hernstein in the district of Baden is idyllically surrounded by the black pine forests of the Triestingtal valley. The municipality comprises the seven villages of Hernstein, Aigen, Alkersdorf, Neusiedl, Grillenberg, Kleinfeld and Pöllau. Historically, Hernstein can be traced back to the rule of the Bavarian Counts of Falkenstein and Neuburg: In 1125, the Falkenstein Reginold was documented as "Genannter de Harrandistein". Today, wonderful short breaks or fresh air time-outs with children await here - surrounded by greenery and with exciting excursion destinations right on the doorstep.
Hernstein: Wonderful sights for young and old
The town was once the center of resin mining in southern Lower Austria. The lovingly furnished Pecher Museum and the exciting Pecher nature trail in the Am Hart pine forest bear witness to this today. The extraordinary work of art of the Pecherkapelle - actually: Vinzenzkapelle - in the middle of the forest is also an ode to the old craft: it was built in 2002 from wood and art glass.
Castle stories from Hernstein
Hernstein Castle with its magnificent park and pond is considered one of the most important magnificent buildings of historicism. It was built in the second half of the 19th century on the basis of an existing farmstead - by the world-famous master builder Theophil von Hansen. Today, the fairytale castle is run as a seminar hotel. Incidentally, the ruins of the fortified tower of Hernstein Castle lie on the hillside directly behind the castle. It dates back to the late 12th century and was destroyed in 1529.
