Brand-Laaben
The municipality of Brand-Laaben in the district of Sankt Pölten-Land lies at the foot of the Schöpfl, which at 893 meters is the highest elevation in the Vienna Woods. The municipality comprises nine villages - and thanks to its "hikeable" landscape, it is considered a particularly beautiful recreational area for short breaks or vacations with the whole family.
Hike & discover Brand-Laaben
The Matraswarte, built in 1898, offers a fantastic panoramic view of the idyllic Laabental valley as well as the Weinviertel and Waldviertel, the Leiserberge mountains and - in good weather - as far as Schneeberg, Rax and Ötscher. The popular Schöpfl refuge is very close by. A wonderful hiking tip for excursionists of all ages is the circular hike via Brand - with the best views and the opportunity to stop for a bite to eat. The Türkenstein is also a good place to hike: the memorial stone commemorates the historic siege of 1683.
Special features in Brand-Laaben: of stars and bison
The baroque parish church of St. John the Baptist from 1012 and the Johanni Chapel as well as the Schilling Chapel in Laaben are well worth seeing in Brand. An excursion highlight is the observatory in nearby Michelbach. A lively special feature is the Kogelhof bison farm: the Egger family breeds the exotic wild cattle here - and welcomes visitors to an exciting guided tour by prior arrangement.
