Gumpoldskirchen
Winegrowing in Gumpoldskirchen has a long tradition. It was first mentioned in a document from 1140, but is certainly much older, as the Romans were already cultivating wine here under Emperor Probus.
The Buschenschank (typical tavern) can also look back on a long history. Since the 16th century, "serving under a pointer" has been common practice, entitling the wine tavern owner to serve wine he has produced himself. Around 80 businesses cultivate an area of around 300 hectares, with the main focus on our traditional varieties Rotgipfler and Zierfandler.
The old traditional wine-growing village is located in the Thermenregion wine-growing region just 20 km from the federal capital of Vienna and enjoys a very favorable climate thanks to its sheltered location at the foot of the Anninger. The people of Gumpoldskirchen are proud of their regional specialties, especially their wine. On the sunny side of the Anninger natural paradise, the vines get an incomparable amount of sunny days. Rotgipfler and Zierfandler are only grown here. The hospitable winegrowers live and celebrate with the seasons. A unique place with cozy wine-related events, exciting wine tours and a unique, mature wine culture.
