Klausen-Leopoldsdorf: Wooden history
The Klausen-Leopoldsdorf timber rafting area was founded in 1667 as an imperial timber rafting area in the Schwechat Valley. With 14 chutes, it was used to transport felled timber to Vienna. In the middle of the 18th century, carpenters from the Salzkammergut region founded the settlement of Leopoldsdorff in the Claußen - thus laying the foundations for today's Klausen-Leopoldsdorf. Some of the historic chalets - such as the main chalet and the Lengbachl or Riesenbach chalets - still characterize the landscape today.
