Trumau

The market town of Trumau in the district of Baden is located in the southern Vienna Woods on the Triesting - roughly on the line that separates the drier south-west from the more humid north-eastern part of the Vienna Basin. The location in this transition zone perhaps explains the place name: For the Middle High German word "drum" means "end piece" - and here, therefore, "end piece of a meadow landscape". Today's place name appears in a similar form in all the old documents.

Today, Trumau is a well-known wine-growing village and also ideal for excursions into the surrounding countryside. Easy, flat routes are ideal for family cycling. Numerous hiking trails - for hikers of all ages - lead through the Vienna Woods. In summer, the Oberwaltersdorf bathing lake is a great excursion tip.

Trumau: a feel-good wine-growing community
The village is famous for its many different grape varieties: such as Grüne Veltliner, Burgundy and Chardonnay or Zweigelt and Blauer Portugieser. The excellent wines are served in the cozy Trumau wine taverns and Buschenschank (typical tavern).

The sights of Trumau
The post-Gothic parish church dates back to the second half of the 16th century. Trumau Castle, owned by the Cistercian monastery of Heiligenkreuz, was converted from a manor into today's castle in the 17th century. The historic courtyard is freely accessible. There are also two pavilions from the 18th century in front of the castle. Also worth seeing in Trumau is the listed "Hofrichterhaus" - an imposing residential building from the early 19th century.
