This circular tour in the footsteps of the Romans begins in the center of Eichgraben, where hikers will find numerous places to stop for refreshments. A visit to the Wienerwald Museum located here is a first highlight. Take the opportunity to find out about Roman coins and their significance as a means of communication and propaganda, as well as the biographies of the personalities depicted on them. In the outdoor area of the museum, you can also marvel at the reconstruction of a Roman tomb from the 1st - 2nd century AD. In addition to the archaeological, geological and folkloristic collection, the "Living Crafts" event, in which experienced experts present their art with old tools, is an interesting experience for young and old alike. The tour continues along the Eichgrabner Höhenwanderweg trail into the forest. On winding paths, you explore a section of the Vienna Woods Biosphere Reserve with its unique cultural landscape in Europe. Clearly visible information boards provide information about the Roman transportation network in this area of the empire, as well as the history of the Vienna Woods and the profession of charcoal burner. Finally, Finsterleiten offers the opportunity to marvel at Roman burial mounds in the great outdoors. There were once seven burial mounds here, but only two of them are still visible today due to road construction. The way back to Eichgraben offers numerous views of the nearby Buchberg and the Anunziata monastery. In summer, a detour to the Wienerwaldbad is worthwhile.
