Hiking tour Starting from
The wine village of Schönau lies on the western edge of the Vienna Basin, without being part of the Lower Austrian Pre-Alps. As a result, the hikes in the municipality have very little elevation gain and can generally be described as leisurely, short circular tours. Schönau is famous for the natural jewel "Schönauer Teiche", a natural monument with a rich bird life, as well as for Schönau Castle with its historic park and the "Temple of the Night" (only partially accessible). You can also visit the local history museum and the baroque parish church of St. Andrew. After the hikes, a number of wine taverns and inns invite you to take a break.
This leisurely and short hiking loop on mostly good paths initially leads out of the village to the Wiener Neustadt Canal. The cycle path and the canal are crossed underneath on a small path (don't miss it!). You then continue along the western embankment of the canal with beautiful views of the foothills of the Alps as far as the dominating Schneeberg. Field paths take you to the village of Leobersdorf, where you continue along the edge of the generation park (children's playground) towards Dornau. Here you should visit the Dornau art mill. The way back then leads initially through alluvial forest and finally back to the village of Schönau.
