Description

This varied tour offers plenty to see. Through different landscapes - sometimes mystical coniferous forests, sometimes imposing beech groves - you pass several unique sights before reaching the finale of this tour: the majestic view of the Anzbach valley from the Kohlreithberg. In places, the trail leads through the extensive pastures of the region's cattle and horse farms. The first part of the trail has been used since 1899. It leads to the Dreiföhrenkapelle chapel, built in 1856. The small place of pilgrimage was already of great importance in earlier times; an image of the Virgin Mary is said to have been here as early as the 18th century. The church was donated by the clothmaker Regina Karner, as indicated by the initials "R 1856 K" on the altar screen. After refreshing yourself in the nearby Waldschenke, you continue your walk up the Kohlreithberg. You will pass a group of burial mounds from Roman times, which prove that the area has always been an ancient settlement area. Once you reach the summit, you can enjoy a fabulous view from the newly erected Millennium Cross. The panorama from here shows Neulengbach Castle, the pilgrimage site of Maria Anzbach, the Buchberg and the surrounding countryside far beyond the Danube. Don't forget to sign the summit register here. The ascent to this 516m high Vienna Woods summit is challenging in places, but well worth it.
