Hiking tour Starting from Weissenbach on the Triesting, church square
To the west of Weissenbach rises the Hocheck, which at an altitude of 1,037 m already offers an extended hike. The fact that there is also a viewing tower at the summit with a fantastic 360° panorama rounds off the hiking experience.

North of the Triesting, leisurely hikes through the typical Vienna Woods landscape predominate, with gentler mountains and forest areas interspersed with many meadows and pastures. Here you will find both the typical pine forests of the region and magnificent high beech forests. An exception in these gentle landscapes is the Peilstein, whose limestone walls protrude from the forest and which is the traditional climbing area of the Viennese. In Weissenbach itself, the Triestingtal Museum is well worth a visit, with its extensive collection of around 10,000 exhibits from the valley, as well as the church and cemetery. In the district of Neuhaus, the renovated Neuhaus Castle with the parish and the forest class are well worth a visit.
This loop can also be easily completed by public transport (Triestingtalbahn), but is 1.5 km longer.
In order to climb the Hocheck from Weissenbach in a circular tour, you have to accept a few kilometers of asphalt at the beginning and end of the loop. The asphalt can be partially avoided, at least at the beginning, by not taking the road from Weissenbach to Furth, but instead choosing the much nicer option presented here via Niemthal and Rehgras. You will be rewarded with beautiful views of Furth and the Further mountains. However, there are a few more meters in altitude to cover. The ascent from Rohrbach to the Hocheck then leads surprisingly quickly via the Krennweg to the summit with its viewing tower.
As the beech forests on the flanks of the Hocheck are currently being extensively cut down by chainsaws, the views of the foothills of the Alps are already increasing during the ascent. However, this is surpassed by the 360° panorama from the Meyringer Warte at the summit, where the mountain view extends as far as Schneeberg, Rax and Ötscher. The hike then continues downhill along the eastern ridge of the Hocheck, with great views, until you descend through mixed forests to Eberbach. From here it is back to asphalt, first on a road with little traffic as far as the Triesting, then on the Triestingtal cycle path back to Weissenbach. Weissenbach is located in the Triestingtal exactly where the Furthergraben and Nöstachbach streams flow into the valley from the southwest and north respectively. The former summer resort, which can still be reached by train, is an ideal starting point for several beautiful hikes.
