From the idyllic hiking and recreation village of Furth, several routes can be undertaken to the 1000-meter peaks of the Gutenstein Alps and the Lower Austrian Prealps – such as Hocheck, Kieneck, and Almesbrunnerberg. A hiking highlight of the municipality is the "Steinwand Klamm", which is crossed on this hike. Depending on the water flow, the gorge roars mightily or not at all, but the crossing is impressive in any case because of the rock scenes, the boardwalks, staircases, and ladders. Back from the hikes, Furth lives up to its name "Valley of the Hosts", as a wide culinary offering rounds off the nature experience.

Description

This "romantic gorge hike" leads through the Steinwandklamm, which was already opened on June 8, 1884.

The Steinwandklamm, one of the most beautiful gorges in eastern Austria, is crossed by the easier variant on boardwalks and stairs. At the end of the gorge you turn left to reach the Türkenloch on a hiking trail. Passing through the cave makes the hike additionally interesting.

As a more difficult variant, you can also take the R. Decker Steig (via ferrata A/B, built in 1927), which partly leads airy and exposed along the walls and through several caves.

The described return path leads over a large meadow with a great view of Schneeberg. Along the way, there is only a chance to rest towards the end of the route at the Jagasitz (saddle between Piestingtal and Triestingtal) or at the end of the hike at the parking lot (Reischer snack station).
