Hiking tour Starting from Laaben Main Square, Laaben 100, 3053 Laaben
Enjoyment. This short hike is entirely dedicated to easy hiking enjoyment and condenses many elements into a small space. We pass through a wonderful beech forest, see the typical orchards, come to views to the north-east and south-east and stroll along a stream. The hike is ideal for families and senior citizens, but also as an appetizer or digestif to the excellent and wide-ranging Laabner cuisine.

Just strolling through a small village center with its mix of middle-class homes and turn-of-the-century villas is a delight in itself. After a short, gentle climb, a lovely forest edge offers a wonderful view to the northeast over the lower Laab Valley. The leisurely path that follows through a beautiful beech forest invites us to take a deep breath, listen closely, and take in the scent of the woods. As we emerge from the forest, a view opens up to the southeast toward Schöpfl, we look down on the town center of Laaben and the surrounding rolling landscape, characterized by orchard meadows, forest, and pastures. During the short “descent” across a gently sloping meadow dotted with many old fruit trees, we find ourselves right in the midst of this exceptionally charming landscape. In the final section, we follow the Pyrathgrabenbach stream for a short distance as it flows into the Laabenbach.
Thanks to its short length yet diverse scenery, this hike is particularly well-suited for families and as a leisurely, enjoyable stroll. With fine dining (GH Linde, Hotel zur Post, Laabnerhof) and excellent home-style cooking (GH Schilling, approx. 600 m from the main square), hikers with a passion for food are also well taken care of.
Normal hiking equipment
From the main square in front of the town hall, we cross the intersection and head towards Brand. After about 100 meters, we turn right into a narrow residential street following the Laabental bike path (No. 41); after the last house in the nicely situated settlement, we go left uphill, the paved road up to the Kleinhinterholz property. Immediately before the farmstead, a meadow path marked as Trail 1 leads us up to the forest edge. Here, in an idyllic viewpoint location, benches await us to rest and enjoy. Well guided by the marking "Trail 1" or a "1" on tree trunks, we walk leisurely through a well-kept beech forest. Once out of the forest again, a charming hillside meadow with strong pear and apple trees lies before us - behind it, we see the eastern town center of Laaben. At first along the forest edge, then a meadow path soon lined by a pear tree avenue leads down to the main road. We cross this straight ahead and go down to the Pyrathgraben brook; following the stream downstream, we come over a pedestrian bridge to Hotel zur Post and the main street. After about 150 meters on the left, we are back at the starting point.
