Attention: Winter closure from November 1 to February 28, the season starts again on March 1! The South Tyrolean Trail is one of the trail highlights in the Vienna Woods. It descends 325 meters down to the Weidling Valley. Flowing passages alternate with technical treats, which are topped off by a few small jumps (which can always be ridden around and over). So be careful: you should also have sufficient MTB experience here and take a rather passive approach on your first ride!

Description

The South Tyrolean Trail starts just east of the Jägerwiese. The upper section starts off rather easy with a slight gradient, but changes abruptly in between with more difficult passages through old bomb craters. Before it crosses the first forest road, there are a few tricky bends to negotiate. In the middle of the long and quite challenging trail, you cross the Kahlenbergerdorf route (forest road). From there, you can continue your tour either towards Grüass Di a Gott Wirt or in the direction of Schönstatt Trail or Leopoldsberg. The second section starts off flowing again with a few waves before it gets a little steeper after the second forest road crossing. After another somewhat flatter section, you reach the main road in Weidling (L116) and can turn left via the stream trail to the Weidlingbach or Dombachgraben trail park. If you want to get back to the start, to the Dornröschen or Schönstatt trail, turn right shortly before reaching the asphalted Südtiroler Weg, up the Südtiroler Uphill.
