Mödling is considered the botanical and zoological heart of Europe. The rich diversity of species is the result of different climatic, morphological and geological influences. The Mödling municipal forest therefore attracts scientists and recreationists from near and far who want to experience the biodiversity, treasures and rarities. The sustainable forest development concept not only meets the requirements of counteracting climate change and at the same time allows energy wood to be produced for the Mödling biomass heating plant, but also takes into account habitat protection and the demands of modern wildlife management. There is plenty of scope for creative recreational use. Biking and hiking trails are strictly separated and not only lead past exciting natural elements and historic staffage buildings, but also offer fascinating views of the Vienna Basin and beyond the national border. With the forest classroom and its own forest education concept, the focus is primarily on young forest visitors. They should get to know, respect and learn about the forest in a playful way.

First along the Meiereiwiese, then the blue trail joins the “Oberer Dreistundenweg.” The route to Jennyberg and Frauenstein is leisurely and fairly flat. Passing the Bockerl hiking inn, you finally reach the Johannesruhe, which offers a breathtaking view of the Vienna Basin. From the Frauenstein, you can see the Mödlinger Klausen (spa gardens, aqueduct, Black Tower, Augengläser). This route also passes Mödling Castle.
Stop by the Bockerl Inn , which is located right along the trail, and enjoy classic Austrian cuisine. You can also explore the surrounding area and visit the Mödling Castle Ruins or the Hussar Temple .
