Description

From Holzschlag, a hiking trail leads left to Peilstein (and on to Weißenbach via the Wiener Wallfahrerweg). However, the Via Sacra branches off to the right and goes downhill to Nöstach and reaches the Hafnerberg pilgrimage church (01:15 h). The valley section of the Via Sacra runs via Altenmarkt and Thenneberg (pilgrimage church in the Dornau) (01:15 h). The asphalted cycle path along the Triesting finally takes you to Kaumberg, where you can walk the last few kilometers on a forest path on the left side of the mountain instead of along the road (02:00 h). For time reasons, you can also take a shorter route via the cycle path along the main road to Kaumberg. Now it's up to Araburg Castle, where shortly after the castle the Viennese pilgrims' path branches off to Rohr im Gebirge (via Unterberg) (01:30 h). The Via Sacra leads over a panoramic ridge and through the forest down into the Gölsental valley to Hainfeld (03:00 h).

Variant via Klein-Mariazell: From Hafnerberg via scenic mountain trails to the once again active Klein-Mariazell Abbey and the St. Corona road on to Kaumberg (18.9 km, 06:15 h).
