Gramatneusiedl: "The unemployed of Marienthal" as a sociological milestone
In 1933, the research paper "The Unemployed of Marienthal" was published on the workers' settlement of the Marienthal textile factory - a study on the effects of long-term unemployment. The results are considered a milestone in the development of empirical social research. Today, visitors can walk in the footsteps of the residents and researchers of the time: thanks to several listed buildings such as the factory hospital, workers' houses and art objects in public spaces - and above all in the museum of the Marienthal-Gramatneusiedl Cultural Association. Admission to the museum is free and open daily from 8 am to 6 pm. The museum association also offers guided tours of the historic workers' settlement.
