Marktgemeinde Kirchstetten
The market town of Kirchstetten in Lower Austria's Mostviertel region belongs to the district of St. Pölten-Land. Several hills such as Aschberg, Haspelwald and Eichberg rise up in the municipal area, which comprises 13 villages. Several small streams flow through the landscape. A network of over 50 kilometers of marked hiking trails invites you to go on a family hike. Excursion destinations and cozy restaurants entice you to take a break and enjoy a short vacation.
Kirchstetten: Welcome to the community of poets!
His descendants still live in the Josef Weinheber House today. Visits to selected work and living spaces of the polarizing poet are possible by appointment. His gravesite in his own garden can also be visited. One of the most important poets of the 20th century also spent several summers in Kirchstetten: The W. H. Auden memorial bears witness to this. Original rooms of the world-famous artist can be viewed here.
The most beautiful excursion destinations in Kirchstetten
In addition to the beautiful Gothic churches in Kirchstetten and Totzenbach, the imposing Totzenbach Castle - a medieval castle that was expanded into a Renaissance castle in the 16th century - is also impressive. A great excursion tip for families is the local history museum "Alte Dorfschmiede": If you book in advance, you can marvel at a restored forge and old kitchen and work tools. The 600-year-old oak tree in Kirchstetten is also worth a visit. A visit to the centuries-old tree can easily be incorporated into a hike - such as the Eichbergweg loop from Böheimkirchen.
