Wiener Neudorf
The market town of Wiener Neudorf in the district of Mödling is located in the Vienna Basin. Its districts are the flourishing industrial center NÖ-Süd and the Mitterfeld settlement. Archaeological finds prove that the area was first settled as early as 4,000 BC. The name "Nowendorf" first appeared in documents in the middle of the 12th century.
Wiener Neudorf: industrial tradition & bathing ponds with history
The rapid industrialization of the town began in the middle of the 19th century. Bricks and clay were particularly important. Four of the ponds created from the clay marl extraction pits at that time are still reminiscent of this time: namely the Erika pond and the Blue Lagoon as well as the Gemeindeteich (also known as the Kahrteich) and the Schinderteich. Today they are popular bathing ponds.
Sights in Wiener Neudorf
In addition to cycling and strolling by the water, Wiener Neudorf also offers beautiful excursion destinations for young and old: the historic Old Town Hall and the monastery church built in 1855 with its valuable frescoes are well worth a visit. In the Eumig Museum, on the other hand, you can marvel at historical radios, cameras and tape recorders. There is a good reason for setting up this exhibition: after all, Eumig GmbH shaped the town like no other company from 1919 to 1982
