The Lower Austrian municipality of Wolfsgraben, located in the Sankt Pölten-Land district, lies in the heart of the Vienna Woods—just about 15 kilometers from the city of Vienna. The Wolfsgrabenbach stream flows through the municipality’s largely unspoiled natural landscape. Numerous well-marked hiking trails wind through the densely forested surroundings—for example, into the Weidlinggraben, along the Wolfsgrabenbach to the view of the Wienerwaldsee, or over the Engelkreuz into Pfalzau. The fairy-tale-themed “Hecke” trail introduces visitors to the region’s tree and shrub species through fairy tales, rhymes, poems, and stories. In addition, signposted mountain bike trails and horseback riding paths wind their way through the Vienna Woods.
Sights in Wolfsgraben
In addition to the historic structures of the Second Vienna High-Head Water Pipeline, the Neo-Romanesque parish church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus is a particularly beautiful landmark. Next to it stands a war memorial. Across from the municipal office stands the Edi Linser memorial stone. It commemorates the successful Tyrolean motorcycle racer who was fatally injured in 1929 during the 7th Austrian Tourist Trophy on a section of the course near Wolfsgraben.
