Hiking tour Starting from Baden Spa Park

On this tour, we first get to know the character of Baden's Kurpark, which merges seamlessly from a landscaped cultural landscape into the Vienna Woods. After the beautiful views from the Beethoven Temple and the Rudolfshof, the route descends to Pfaffstätten Einöde. From there, the actual ascent begins via the "Große Kiental" up to the Pfaffstättner Kogel (541m) with the Rudolf Proksch huts and Klesheimwarte. The ascent is not too long and only a little steeper at the end, so even smaller children can experience the summit. Once at the top, the reward is good food, an adventure playground and a magnificent view. On the way back, we experience the Thermenregion Vienna Woods up close via footpaths and forest trails and then continue through the characteristic wine landscapes of the Thermenregion.

First, the trail follows the yellow markings from the main entrance of the spa gardens, past the Lanner-Strauss Monument and the Beethoven Temple, up to the Rudolfshof. From here, we follow the green markings and arrive at Pfaffstätten Einöde, where we cross the state highway. The trail now climbs moderately through the “Großes Kiental” valley to the junction with the red trail markers. We stay on the green-marked trail, which turns right and climbs more steeply to the Rudolf Proksch Hut. For the return trip, we take the blue-marked trail, which begins to the left of the ascent to the Rudolf Proksch Hut. It climbs moderately steeply to a trail junction with red markings (Long-Distance Hiking Trail 04). However, we stay on the blue-marked trail toward Pfaffstätten until we reach the Vienna Aqueduct Hiking Trail and follow it to the right toward Baden. Once we reach the city limits, we use the tower of St. Stephan’s Parish Church as a landmark and walk back to the starting point via Trostgasse and Kaiser Franz-Ring.
Anyone who has made it to the top of the Pfaffstättner Kogel should also tackle the steps up to the Klesheimwarte. On clear days, you can see across the entire Vienna Basin, from the south of Vienna all the way to the Bucklige Welt.
