The Millennium Route offers a varied route through the Vienna Woods with scenic and cultural highlights. A particular highlight is Mauerbach Castle Park, which impresses with its historical backdrop and well-tended park. Also on the route is the Sophienalpe, an extensive plateau with meadows and forests that has established itself as a popular excursion destination. Another striking point is the Franz Karl-Fernsicht, which offers an impressive panoramic view of the Vienna Woods. The mixture of forest paths, gravel and asphalt passages ensures a varied ride with sporting challenges and scenic highlights.
Before every ride, check that the brakes, tires, and suspension fork/shock are in good working order. Always ride with an eye out for hazards and at a controlled speed, and choose a route that suits the group’s riding ability and the terrain. The Fair Playrules must be observed at all times. Single/shared trails, as well as built trails in trail parks and trail centers, often feature rocks, roots, steep sections, steps, and sharp turns that require a certain level of riding skill. If in doubt, simply dismount and walk your bike.
A safe and roadworthy mountain bike is a prerequisite for all routes. A helmet and gloves provide protection in the event of a fall, and knee and elbow pads can be added when riding on single or shared trails. A modern mountain bike with disc brakes and sufficient tire tread is recommended. For single and shared trails rated red difficulty or higher, a full-suspension bike with modern geometry is recommended. Tools, a tire lever, a pump, and a spare tube will help in case of a flat tire. You should also carry enough food and drink, as well as a cell phone and a windbreaker or rain jacket.
From the Hohe Wand Wiese Trail Park, the route continues for 200 m along Mauerbachstr., then through Hohe Wand Gasse and the forest to Mauerbach, where we pass the Mauerbach Castle Park and, after the cemetery, turn right onto the Pitzelsdorfer Steig. Follow this path to the end, where you’ll join the Scheiblingstein Trail. Once you reach the Sophienalpe, continue south along the Franz Karl-Fernsicht, where the Kasgraben will eventually lead you back to the starting point.

Take the A1 to the Wien-Auhof exit, then take the B1 to Albert Schweitzer Gasse; turn right at Albert Schweitzer Gasse, turn left at Forststraße/Mauerbachstraße, and follow the main road to Mauerbach.
