A relaxed tour through the Purkersdorf countryside
The two municipalities of Purkersdorf and Gablitz lie at the foot of the Troppberg, a natural jewel and recreational area in the Vienna Woods Biosphere Reserve. All 3 hiking trails start at the popular Hochramalpe recreation inn, which is an ideal place to either fortify yourself before the hike or indulge in culinary delights afterwards. The 1st route is easy and ideal for an excursion with small children with a length of 7.3 km. The second route is a little more challenging, but the scenery is enchanting: 10.4 km through Purkersdorf to the large Steinbachtal valley and back again via the Kaisermais to the Hochramalpe. From the Kaisermais, keen hikers can plan an extra loop to the Troppberg summit with fabulous views as far as the Schneeberg. Simply follow the yellow ÖTK signs here. The third route is a long but leisurely 11.6 km loop through Purkersdorfer Forst, on the other side of Gablitz. A varied route, which also borders on the well-developed network of hiking trails in Mauerbach. You can admire numerous animal and plant species on all the paths. In any case, you will spend an unforgettable day in the heart of the western Vienna Woods, on the outskirts of Vienna.
