Wiental Elsbeere Route

The Wiental-Elsbeere Route (East) is closed in the Pfalzberg area due to forestry work.
Currently, the only alternative is to ride the northern part of the Pfalzau route in the opposite direction.

The route starts at the Hütteldorf train station and continues to Purkersdorf along the Wiental Bike Path—following the Wien River—then around the Sagberg into the Irenental valley—continuing on the road to Gasthof Mirli—and from there over the Kleine and Große Stiefelberg hills to Rekawinkel. The entire route continues in Rekawinkel via Rittsteiggasse to the Römerstern. After a while, turn left, then right, and then left again—follow the road all the way to Neulengbach. In Neulengbach, at the BORG, join the Laabental Cycle Path toward Laaben. In Laaben, just before the Angemühle, take a sharp left—follow the L119 and take the second opportunity to turn right. After turning right, continue straight ahead along the road and take another sharp left at the next intersection. This road leads to the L110; turn right there and take the second left. Pass the Wienerwald Golf Club, the Falkensteinerhütte, and through Hasenriegel. Cross the bridge over the highway and continue uphill toward Brunnberg to Oberkniewald. This is the highest point—from there, head downhill to Pfalzau—from Pfalzau, the route goes via Engelkreuz along the Sattel core zone to Wolfsgraben. From Wolfsgraben, head south of the highway along the Georgenberg route to Baunzen. There, go under the highway, continue on to Auhof, and then back to Hütteldorf.

AUTHOR’S TIP: To ride the East and West stages separately, the connecting route between the East and West stages starts here in Rekawinkel. So, staying on the East stage: Pass by Gasthof Mayer in Rekawinkel (large intersection)—continue south over the highway bridge.

If you’re traveling by public transit: There are excellent connections from Vienna via the S-Bahn and regional trains! You can therefore start this tour either at the train station in Hütteldorf or at the train station in Purkersdorf. Please note that, unfortunately, there are only limited bike transport options available on the trains.

The route is signposted throughout—follow the signs for “Wiental Elsbeere Tour,” “Wiental Elsbeere Tour East,” or “Wiental Elsbeere Tour West.”
