Our tour starts right at the Berndorf train station. From here, there are three marked hiking trails leading up to the lookout point. We’ll follow the green trail markers. After about 150 meters heading east, we’ll turn onto Ing.-Eugen-Essenther-Straße, a low-traffic residential street, and follow it to the state road leading to Hernstein and Kleinfeld. We take the second left turn and walk along the main road to Kleinfeld. To avoid this less attractive stretch, there’s also a footpath directly to Kleinfeld at the Seilbahnstraße. Although this path is slightly longer, it’s free of motor vehicle traffic. If we stay on the main road, we’ll reach the access road to the Waldhütte in about 1.5 km. We then head up to the hut along an unmarked (except for the “zur Waldhütte” directional arrow) forest road that’s about 2 km long. A beautifully landscaped terrace with an equally beautiful view over Berndorf invites you to take a break there. Just below the hut, at the turnoff to St. George’s Chapel, a blue-marked trail joins the route. There is also a cross here with a rest area. A must-see is the Guglzipf Jubilee Lookout, built in 1990. The view in all directions is impressive. Our hike continues toward St. Veit. Just past the lookout, a forest nature trail begins; our trail marker is now green. Before reaching the covered rest area, we could take two shortcuts back to the train station: via the Mühlsteig (red trail) or via the Sängersteig (also red). We stay on our green trail. About 350 m past the rest area, this trail ends and turns left into the forest. We stay on the unmarked forest road until we reach the forest settlement of St. Veit. Here we rejoin the green trail. We walk past the Masai Mara lakeside campground and reach the St. Veit an der Triesting bus stop.

Please be careful in the forest, as the cold may cause some areas to be slippery.
