Purkersdorf
The municipality of Purkersdorf in the district of Sankt Pölten-Land is not far from the city limits of Vienna. The wonderful hiking trails and mountain bike routes through the Vienna Woods promise relaxing days and refreshing short breaks. Excursion destinations for young and old await. Today's feel-good community was founded around the year 1,000 as a forest settlement, and "Purchartesdorf" was first mentioned in a document in 1133. However, the area was settled much earlier, as archaeological finds from the 8th century BC prove.
Purkersdorf: the most beautiful sights
The entire town is characterized by stately villas and other historic buildings, especially from the 18th and 19th centuries. The parish church of St. Jakob with its medieval core is a wonderful eye-catcher. The famous Purkersdorf Sanatorium was built in 1904 and 1905 in the style of the Viennese Secession. Purkersdorf Castle was first mentioned in documents in 1255 - and today houses the district court and the town museum, among other things. The Purkersdorf Theater puts on a variety of productions - open air in the Dambach quarry in summer and in the Stadtsaal in autumn.

Whether hiking through the Purkersdorf-Sandsteinwienerwald nature park - preferably up to the highest point of the Rudolfshöhe viewing platform - or high rope climbing with a jungle feeling in the climbing park: there is so much to experience for fresh air fans of all ages in Purkersdorf. The large Wienerwaldsee lake between Purkersdorf, Tullnerbach and Pressbaum is a water conservation area with diverse flora and fauna. The well-maintained paths around the lake are very popular with runners and walkers.
